National Poetry Day

National Poetry Day (NPD) occurs annually in the U.K. and Ireland on a Thursday in late September or early October

National Poetry Day was founded in 1994 by William Sieghart. 

Every year, people get a theme on this day, and they write a poem on the given topic.

If you’re a teacher, inviting a poet into your school is one of the best ways to celebrate National Poetry Day

To celebrate National Poetry Day, 6th of October, doorstep library inviting all our young readers to write their own poems! 

In Scotland, the Scottish Poetry Library (SPL) has set up a NPD hub on its website with poems on this year’s theme. 

All submissions will be entered into our free competition.  The winners will be notified directly on Wednesday 26th of October. The deadline for the competition is Friday 21st October
